Parent Information on MySpace.com

MySpace.com has become the website of choice for many of our middle and high school students.  Unfortunately, if children are left unsupervised, it can be a dangerous thing. We're finding that kids are posting personal information including their full names and addresses, pictures of themselves, and when they go to other kids' MySpace pages, they are exposed to vulgar language, hateful comments, cyber-bullying, and even in some cases, nudity.

If you've ever logged into your kids' MySpace accounts, frankly, it is frightening!  Our St. Clair RESA attorney's advice to parents is to sit down with your kids and look at what they have posted and see what they're able to see on other kids' websites.  One of the scary things to consider is that once information is posted, even if students think they've deleted it, it stays out on the web forever as Internet sites are automatically duplicated every few minutes. If you're wondering about all those abbreviations your kids use online, click here for a key to their "Cyber Language."
