Description of the Life Skills and Spanish Programs
|
|
| LIFE SKILLS While many remember our times in Home Economics Class the Life Skills program your student is now a part of is much more comprehensive than the days only cooking and sewing. In Life Skills classes today, all students deepen their knowledge of food and nutrition, communication and develop cooking skills. Specifically, by grade level, students will focus on: 7th grade Life Skills 10-week course
8th grade Life Skills 20-week course
Spanish The 7th grade Spanish program is designed to provide your student with a very basic overview of the Spanish language and vocabulary. Since this class is only 10 weeks long your student will not have time to become fluent in the language. If your student has a desire to learn more and further their understanding of the Spanish language there are links to online activities to practice their skills. If your student plans to continue studying Spanish a Spanish/English Dictionary would be beneficial for them. 7th grade Spanish 10 week course

| Description of Free Food
Friday
|
|
| In eighth grade only
students will be allowed to have 3-4 Free Food Friday's per semester.
Free Food Friday is a cooking day where students plan a specific menu
in groups. Each member of the group brings in one or two of the
ingredients for the meal. This is a method for students to make the
foods they like while practicing skills in group interaction,
responsibility and time management.
Students are STRONGLY discouraged from bringing any pre made foods. This is an opportunity for the students to enhance their cooking skills; this objective is not often obtained when cooking with box meals and frozen foods. |
