This class is an introduction level Fine Arts class. Here students will explore the basic elements of design and how they are utilized in the visual arts. Students will be exposed to a variety of materials and processes. Demonstrations and practice will be given in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and various other disciplines. Students will also learn about significant artists and works of art throughout history.
Students in this class will expand upon the elements of design by applying various design principles. The use of materials from Art I will be further developed adding upon previous practices and exploring new possibilities. This will also further explore three-dimensional art, career paths, and the use of new materials. Art History will focus more on contemporary art and artists.
THREE DIMENSIONAL ART: Back to top
This class is designed for students who have developed an understanding of the elements and principles of design on a two-dimensional level. Now students will be given the opportunity to fully explore three-dimensional possibilities. The idea of form will be demonstrated through use of clay, plaster, paper mache, wood, metal, and found objects. Students will still be required to work 2-dimensionally in preparation for 3-D projects.
This class is primarily designed to create visuals for Filmmaking. Students will create backdrops, props, special effects, models, and other items to be used in creating short films. Students will also explore ways of creating digital music and scoring soundtracks. When not working on specific films, students will create set pieces for other activities. The class will also design puppets and a stage for a puppet show for elementary students.
ART IN THE ENVIRONMENT--Prerequisite: Art I or II Back to top
This class focuses on how the world around us influences artist and how artists in return impact the environment. Students will be exposed to various forms of art through the examination of nature and various careers in art. The class will look at the role of photographers, computer graphic artists, animators, filmmakers, and other artists that impact our society. Students entering this class should have some previous art knowledge.
ADVANCED STUDIO--Prerequisite: Art I & II Back to top
This class is reserved for those students who have demonstrated a serious interest in art, as well as special ability in this area. Students intending to major in art in college or to attend an art school will begin preparing portfolios for acceptance. In this class there will be an increased awareness of the creative process with more freedom in the selection of projects, allowing the student to develop in-depth in areas of special interest.
